This grant is part of a statewide effort to help homeowners better protect their properties from hurricane damage. Funds are limited and awarded during specific application periods.
up to$6,000Also provided by NCIUA, the Strengthen Your Coastal Roof Grant offers eligible beach-area policyholders up to $6,000 toward the installation of a certified FORTIFIED Roof™.
This grant is designed for homeowners in coastal regions at high risk of storm damage, and the application process is similar to the Strengthen Your Roof Grant.
To apply, visit the official grant website—Strengthen Your Roof or Strengthen Your Coastal Roof—and submit your application during the open application period. Applications are only accepted through the official portals.
Once submitted, NCIUA and IBHS will review your application to determine if your home qualifies for a FORTIFIED Roof™. If approved, your grant funds will be reserved while you move forward with construction.
Please note that prices will vary depending on the size of your roof, roofing material, and more.
After approval, you’ll receive access to your grant dashboard, where you can request bids from licensed contractors like Fortitude Roofing. We’re experienced in building FORTIFIED Roofs™ and will ensure your roof meets both the standards and your home’s aesthetic.
Once your new roof is installed, a certified IBHS Evaluator will inspect the work to ensure it complies with all FORTIFIED Roof™ requirements and submit documentation to IBHS on your behalf.
After the roof is verified, NCIUA will release the grant funds directly to you, the policyholder. You can then use these funds to cover your roofing expenses.

They kept us informed about all steps and changes involved in our roof replacement project in a very timely manner.
Cameron Cooke was our first point of contact, making initial measurements, walking us through the contract, answering any and all questions in a timely manner. He was very knowledgeable about the SYR Grant program that we participated in to install our fortified roof. When there was a delay on the receipt of our skylights, we were informed by multiple people, multiple times about the change, including Cameron. They really made sure we understood what was going on and the new timeline. As soon as those skylights were in, we were on the schedule within a couple of weeks and very well informed of the timelines.
On the day of the project, Deven Diaz, our project manager was on site for the entire project and managing everything. He kept us updated via extensive pictures and conversation throughout the day, did a thorough walkthrough at the end, and ensured that that the property was left clean and secured. The crew was amazingly fast and adhered to all the fortified roof requirements as agreed upon. My neighbors were amazed that the project was done in only 1 day. I would recommend this company for their very high quality of customer service, speed, follow through, and construction.
During the process of executing the SYCR program, my wife and I appreciated the Fortitude Roofing employees keeping us informed. Cameron started us off with process explanation and material overview. He displayed wonderful patience during our question session. Jacob staged the supplies at our house and provided invoice details. Deven was here the day of install ensuring a safe environment for his on-site team and provided photos during the day. Final walkaround described the completion and displayed an excellent clean-up. From the initial sales presentation with Cameron to the prep work and through the whole process of the fortified roof installation, my experience was Five Star Plus. Project manager Deven, was in contact with me the day before job, at 6:45 day of and throughout the day. He kept me aprised of the process, progress, any changes as the day went on. He was well informed and used his expertise and photos to inform me. He coordinated the flow of the installation and his team of 17 men. The roof was finished ahead of schedule. The team worked well together to clean up every little tidbit from nails to tar paper to shingles and anything else they could find so that they would leave no Trace. Just like Boy Scouts. Cameron Cook, as promised, came out today to followup and make sure everything was to my satisfaction.
